The History of Broomfields and Bowling Park: A Journey Through East Bowling
To the south of Bradford City Centre lies the area once known as Broomfields. Created largely due to the arrival of the railway industry, Broomfields became one of the most densely packed areas of housing and industry in the city, eventually falling into disrepair and transforming into a slum. Over the 20th century, this community was radically changed.
In this fascinating talk, Jonathan Crewdson, Director of the Neighbourhood Project, explores the origins of this forgotten neighbourhood, how it was shaped, and the reasons for its dramatic transformation. The discussion also delves into the history of Bowling Park, located just above Broomfields, nestled between East and West Bowling.
